Julie Julie: It depends on what you want to accomplish with the additional text. I recommend Dr. Hsu's Oriental Materia Medica a concise guide for five reasons that outweigh it's nomenclature vacuity: (1) It has a wide compliment of herbs not contained in Bensky giving low redundancy. This way when they come across herbs in research articles not listed in Bensky, there is a resource more likely to have a reference than the others. (2) It has a greater number of plant genus and/or species used for a given Chinese medicinal agent than most. (3) It lists the Shen Nun Ben Cao category.
