Guest guest
Not sure if this has been posted here yet... FDA ISSUES AN ADVISORY FOR PRODUCTS CONTAINING PYRROLIZIDINE ALKALOIDS (PA) July 6, 2001, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a letter to communicate their concern about the marketing of dietary supplements that contain the herbal ingredient comfrey (Symphytum officionale (common comfrey), S. asperum (prickly comfrey), and S. x uplandicum (Russian comfrey). These herbs are a source of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) and according to the FDA present a serious health hazard to consumers when they are ingested. Other herbs containing PA include gravel root, butterbur, life root and colt's foot. As a result of this advisory Emerson Ecologics has discontinued these products until they are reformulated and/or relabeled by their manufacturers. We expect these products to come back into stock over the next several months. For the complete letter and more information go to www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/dspltr06.html. For a recent Newswire article on the PA advisory go to www.emersonecologics.com/Newswire.asp?id=15. ********************************************Sean P.
