It states that Yunnan Bai Yao is an herb formula which can be used for both physical and emotional traumas to the body. He did not explain why. it was just stated as an indication for the proper use of the formula. That indicated to me where Lonny learned this application.

These applications were an ongoing part of the conversations between Lonnie, myself and Dr. Hammer. There is no question Drs. Shen and Hammer used this formula for physical and emotional trauma that was an etiological factor in the case regardless of time frame.

Both men lamented the change in the formulation which rendered it less effective. The secret formulation is unfortunate and I find an ethical quandary around prescribing a formula for which there is unknown ingredients - one that has been so beneficial to so many over the years. I have not prescribed it in over a year now. I usually use San Qi with open orifice agents and one of Dr Shen's favorite herbs.... Yu Jin.

Group: When i was in school I spent endless hours just flipping through old

acupuncture journals to see who had written articles in the late 70s and

early 80s. Specifically I was looking for articles by Macciocia, Dr. Shen,

Leon Hammer, And others who are now senior practitioners in our field. I

came across a Journal that was green and yellow in color (maybe someone here

can remember the name) which I believe is out of print. The was an article

written in 1982( I believe) and it was written by Dr. John Shen.

That would be the ACTCM (American College of TCM in San Francisco)

journal. I think I remember that article.. . . and will look it up.
