I've heard two Japanese explanations for this prescription with tremendous regularity, the one you note here, (some of which are similar to what Will posted quoting Dr. Yang in digest 804). I've also talked to a number of Japanese kampoists who believe that the Japanese are constitutionally more susceptible to midstage patterns. After the sweltering heat opens ones pores, one walks into a shop and is immediately greeted by a blast of icy air from the aircon mounted just above the door (as well as a hearty " Irasshaimase!
