Guest guest
Having a few years experience in drug de-tox in a small clinic, its amazing the negative spin. Even the use of the word " cure " in the title is a tip-off of a clueless writer. Almost half of 600 drug addicts completed a two month once a day program... 50% of subjects drug free for 2 months. Pretty good. It reminds me of the study in the Ted Kaptchuk book (the name escapes me) where after a trial they threw out both the tested procedure and the control results because both worked equally effectively. How can they think that sitting for an hour once a day listening to quiet music is a neutral control enviroment. How about taking 150 addicts on the street and see if half of them stay off drugs for 2 months? Now that's control. :-) > Writing in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association > (news - web sites), Margolin said auricular acupuncture is widely > used -- more than 400 abuse clinics in the United States and Europe > offer it -- but the mechanism by which it is supposed to work is a > mystery. > > In the study, the subjects underwent eight weeks of treatment and > were offered counseling as well. Guest guest
I agree. Some of these studies are specious, and have little credibility beyond being funded and conducted. The issue of true objectivity, who is doing the funding, and who is conducting the study should always be considered, but the public rarely does. The media plays on these things. Observers influence outcome. On Wednesday, January 2, 2002, at 10:18 AM, wrote: > Having a few years experience in drug de-tox in a small clinic, its > amazing the negative spin.
