Thanks, for her input. None of the conditions applied to me and I

had excellent direction. I have a feeling that those who profit by a

macrobiotic-type diet self-select while those who don't eventually

drop out.

I do have a related question for those dealing with weight loss. To

induce weight loss, (as opposed to making someone more balanced where

they are and engendering incidental weight loss,) is a moderate

amount of heat generation useful? From a western POV we are

increasing metabolism, which requires converting significant amounts

of fat into energy. For those who are profoundly obese, this would

require increasing energy production beyond levels which

are " normal " . In other words, can we effectively intervene in

causing significant weight loss without a temporary imbalance between

food consumed and energy used- which may involve generating internal

heat?

Obviously there are limits to how desirable this is and which

patients are appropriate to use such methods with. We would need to

manage the heat generated with herbs and acupuncture to prevent

pathologies. But my question is how can we induce significant change

in the significantly obese in the context of a medicine which is

based upon balance?
