While acupuncture can be controlled for with shams using these new devices

which simulate acupuncture, other controls don't work so well, like

relaxation. See the JAMA article, January 2002 which showed no

statistically significant effects of acupuncture on cocaine addiction. This

is due, I believe in part, to the inability to apply control conditions

unilaterally. Anyway, acupuncture is off-topic here, but I'd invite back

channels on this.

I agree herbal studies are less problematic, as I said, I believe herb

protocols can provide evidence of efficacy using the scientific method.
