Guest guest
While acupuncture can be controlled for with shams using these new devices which simulate acupuncture, other controls don't work so well, like relaxation. See the JAMA article, January 2002 which showed no statistically significant effects of acupuncture on cocaine addiction. This is due, I believe in part, to the inability to apply control conditions unilaterally. Anyway, acupuncture is off-topic here, but I'd invite back channels on this. I agree herbal studies are less problematic, as I said, I believe herb protocols can provide evidence of efficacy using the scientific method. -pz >>>Unfortunately TCM doesn't lend itself nicely to the scientific method, and that's why I'm interested in research design development. >>>>Pam I do not agree. You can do good research and still preserve TCM methodologies. One can design good acupuncture placebo with/or without skin penetration. Herbal studies are not difficult at all.
