Guest guest
Doug, Yes, Stanley Israel died a couple of years ago. I think Ken's reference is also to Tam Gibbs, a senior student and translator of Prof. Cheng's who died very early in his life (his 40s). I don't know about others. Maggie Newman has had serious health problems which she has so far survived and still teaches in NYC and Philadelphia. Ed Young visited here (D.C. area) last fall and showed slides of Professor's very beautiful brush work, with great commentary since Ed is an artist himself and was present while many of these were being painted. I feel it is sad that so many seem to know about the Professor's alleged excesses with alcohol, and a smaller number know about his other great contributions to the world. Stanley then took over and I had to move on. I have heard that Stanley has died (not a big surprise) but also heard that Don has passed on (rumor). I don't know if these names mean anything to you old-timers. ;-) > > I have always > > been curious as to why several of his > > senior students in this country have > > died relatively early in their lives. > > And the discord that raged in his wake > > when he himself died in the mid-70s > > has similarly left me with a number of > > questions that will probably never be > > answered. > > Chinese Herbal Medicine, a voluntary organization of licensed healthcare practitioners, matriculated students and postgraduate academics specializing in Chinese Herbal Medicine, provides a variety of professional services, including board approved online continuing education. Then there was Patrick Watson, not one of the senior students, but a noteworthy character in the drama, and an actor at that, who also died rather young. It is out of respect for the Professor and his teaching, which he himself summed up as all about longevity through softness, that I think it's appropriate for us to contemplate the fact that even someone as close as Tam found that teaching elusive. Ken Ken, these are the deeper aspects of the taiji teaching that often donot begin to evidence themselves until we reach a more ripe age.
