Todd -

AB 1943 provides for an increase of hours to 4,000. This would affect students entering schools after the cutoff date of 2007 (there is a step up in 2003 to 3200 hours). According to the bill, the titles OMD and Chinese Herbalist will be construed to be practicing acupuncture when used in trade and will be subject to the same laws. At this point there is no provision for a doctoral title. This would be a 'next step' item.

I really hope the state refrains from micro managing academic content. Let schools design curriculum based on properly conducted job analyses.

Does anyone know what's up with a bill in the CA assembly to change the acupuncture law? I know they are trying to increase educational standards to 3800 hours. There is also language about the use of the title OMD or DOM. It does not seem this way to my reading, but some people have told me that the law will make the entry level degree a doctorate and grandfather current L.Ac.'s to allow them to use the title doctor.

You are correct Teresa - the bill has no provision for micromanagement. But the CAB is responsible for generating regulations and rules after the laws.

I have read and re-read and admiringly politics are not my forte, however I did not read that by the passing of AB 1943 that it would mean, there would be some sort of "micro-managing".
