Guest guest
Z'ev, Alon, I think we have to make a distinction between what is Chinese by virtue of the fact of a thousands of years long tradition of transmission of medical lore and the accident of birth. Being born Chinese, raised and educated in China, and all of the other things that attend to having an ethnic identity as Chinese have relatively little to do with study and understanding of Chinese medicine. It doesn't matter if one is Chinese, American, Israeli, French, Black, Yellow or Green. The chore of studying Chinese medical knowledge is more or less the same. Those who happen to be Chinese probably have a slight advantage of pre-exisiting familiarity with the language and the cultural context. But such familiarity carries with it cultural baggage of its own. Is it a net plus? Probably. But that hardly matters, and it's certainly not my point about the need to study the language and the literature in order to competently understand and apply the medical theories. for some reason, this post to which Z'ev responds here somehow doesn't show up in my message index.
