Guest guest
Hi group *S*Our OM Education legislation, AB 1943 (Chu), with the help of 150 LAc's who showed up in Sacramento last Tuesday, squeaked by the Assembly Business and Professions Committee by a 7-3 vote (6 votes were needed), and is moving on to the Assembly Health Committee for a vote this coming Tuesday. It appears that the bill has been severely modified. Changes in the legislation include the following (for full text, go to http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html):1) The number of hours required for eligibility to take the exam has changed from 3200 to 3000 for those students entering OM programs by January 1, 2004.2) That the intent of the legislature is to see a 4,000 hour curriculum for the licensure of acupuncturists developed and implemented by 2010.3) An acupuncturist licensed prior to January 1, 2003, shall complete 450 hours of continuing education courses in acupuncture by January 1, 2013, in order to renew his or her license.4) All other language relating to Oriental medicine, clinical supervisors, diagnosis, etc., has been dropped.
