Guest guest
I've got a patient coming in this weekend with recently diagnosed Parkinson's disease. Apparently, he has only recently begun to experience symptoms of rigidity and the mask face. I'm going to sit down with him and talk to him about the help that TCM can provide him, but I'm not all that confident I even know what herbs or acupuncture can provide. I've had a few Parkinson's people in the past and I've seen that acupuncture can smooth things out for them for a few days at a time, but beyond that there was no lasting effect or lessening of the actual Parkinson's. I'm wondering if anybody on this list has any experience with long-term management of Parkinson's, either herbally or with acupuncture. Can we prevent the process from progressing? Can we turn it around in the early stages? I've heard from my Chinese teachers that " It's tough to treat " but that's not enough info to really pass on to a patient. PS: I am familiar with the work being done in Santa Cruz (http://pdtreatment.com), but I'd like to get information from other sources. I have even used that protocol on some patients (one for an entire year), but I wasn't too moved by it. -- Al Stone L.Ac. <AlStone http://www.BeyondWellBeing.com Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
