Guest guest
Jim - In my experience, the hidden evil cannot be hidden completely. In other words, the compensatory actions of the organism are not absolute. Wang Shuhe describes yang pulses in the yin aspect as pertinent findings for this subject. Urgent sensations in the arrival of the wave are positive signs for latent heat when found in that portion of the wave that is 'yang within yin'. Also - if one applies what I call the 'fractal model of Dr Shen', the region between the diaphragm and the upper jiao is what is described as the 'mo yuan' in the Wen Bing. If in this position, there is a slippery, rough, full, urgent or forceful quality, there is usually a confirmation of latent heat through other signs, symptoms or history. I have found this to be particularly significant in a select few cancer recovery patients. As for the tongue, it often reflects the impaired fluid distribution that takes place as the yin encapsulates pathogens in an attempt to sequester them from the rest of the organism. Under these circumstances, the tongue may be thicker on one side than another. In addition, red prickles may be a hint. Will Does a latent heat condition have signs even when the heat is latent (i.e. when there are no disease symptoms, do the tongue, pulse and general sx like sleep, etc. reflect perfect health)? Maybe it would easier to accept that dampheat lodges in the lower jiao and flares when provoked. This does not require any " new " ideas. : Who are these people who are opposed to new ideas? And what's wrong with new ideas? In Western medicine, many problems in the heart, brain, nerves, etc., are being blamed on latent viruses. The body is always battling with viruses, bacteria, and other foreign invaders; but without significant contrast in yin/yang, symptoms do not manifest. We may need to extend the definition of hidden toxins even further to account for things like the carcinogenic material that lodges in and disrupts the DNA (wouldn't this be considered deeper than the blood depth?) and the accumulation of heavy metals in nerves and other tissues. Guest guest
Will: I agree that hidden evils are not always hidden. Many of our previous conversations have discusssed things that manifest in the pulses well before any symptoms or other signs are evident. So, while I understand and don't disagree with your findings, I think we still need to further consider the role of hidden toxins---even when in small amounts that are accumulating but don't yet show in either the pulses or symptoms. Otherwise, almost all pulses would always show evidence of heavy metals, cancenogens, pollutants, pestasides, viruses, etc. Even though the compensatory actions of the organism are not absolute, there is a threshold below which even pulses cannot be read---especially with the limited training and sensitivity of most practitioners.
