Guest guest
I quote from the first edition of Fundamentals of CM (Ellis, et. al. 1985, pp. 30): " Essence ... may be considered the substantial (yin) counterpart of the active (yang) spirit. " yet it also says: " congenital essence is responsible for effecting the transformative action of the middle burner qi. " that sounds like a pretty yang function, to me. " essence that has been mobilized to maintain the functional activity of the organs is often referred to as essential qi (jing qi) " pp. 31 " kidney essential qi is derived from the ... (congenital essence) " pp. 84 " kidney yin and kidney yang ... are rooted in kidney essential qi. " All these statement seem to support the idea of essence being yang within yin.
