People have speculated that Yuen doesn't write because he doesn't want

to get nailed on his sources. He says that he doesn't want to create a

new " cookbook " esoteria. There may be something about his channeling in

their as well. Certainly there enough notes and transcripts for a volume

now. I think Yuen would encourage " rampant speculation " . That in a way

is the point of his work.

I don't know if Xiang Fu resolves Hun issues or not. In many ways it

(this discussion) brings up issues of my own and TCM and its place in

the treatment process. If in our modern practice and the patient was the

victim of abuse years ago, why not give a " trauma treatment " acupuncture

protocol? (From Yuen). If we can get into our medicine enough to

identify Hun issues then why not try Xiang Fu.? This is the thouroughly

modern part of me that cooks up Hu Huan Pi when I'm down and hopes for a

way out of the modern world mess.

Wellllll then, i also have the buddhist part which says there is no

Hope.

I think there a lot of (esoteric) practices that can string a patient

along with solutions and feeding our modern world obsessions with what

we see as " happiness " .(I'll get back to this). As a business stradegy

its a perfect " co-dependency " relationship. The esoteric practioner has

the solution the patient needs them (with need in bold face). So this

continual feeding the patient " solutions " stops the patient to see the

happiness quotion as the act of looking at all the good and bad equally.

(A lot of my thoughts come out of my work in drug acupuncture clinics

where co-dependency is a big issue. And the 12 steps edict that " its all

an inside job " . )

This is not to say that I don't believe in Xiang Fu. I think we can and

should " go there " when appropriate and when both patient and

practitioner are comfortable with it. I really like what Yuen says

about our role as making the patient comfortable in their illness. It is

this and not the cure that counts. And yes, I find Yuen's acupuncture

really effective.

With regard to xiang fu's effects on past and future, there is no

way I am going to elicit confirmation of this effect without a very

leading question. If a patient spontaneously reports to me that

they resolved a past issue while taking xiang fu, that would be

interesting if it happened constantly. If I suggest to the patient

that this is likely and then it happens, I am a lot more skeptical.

So I just don't know how to make use of this information without

rampant speculation on my part. I do use xiang fu quite a bit, so

I will pay attention to what the patient reports about their life with

this idea in mind to see if I detect any patterns. Idiosyncratic

ideas may have value and if we can test them without harming

the patient, it seems a worthy undertaking. I wouldn't prescribe

xiang fu for this purpose, but if I happen to be giving it anyway...

Doug, have you found this idea to be valid?

there are a lot of missing details in that book- you

cant simply apply the information- there is a lot of

background stuff- for example jacobs states on P 308

that divergent meridian treatment " needs to be three

times a week " ; this is incorrect, actually you treat

three days in a row, then three off, then three on,

for 18 days to constitute one treatment period for

divergent meridians- Jeffrey comes from an oral

tradition and will never be writing books...
