Guest guest
Does anyone know of a specific contraindication for patients on AGRANOX an aspirin derivitive with Dan Shen Yin, the patent. I realize the contraind. for warfarin and dan shen. Does this also carry over to all anticoagulates? I have a patient who had a mild stroke 3 weeks ago who has almost fully recovered. He is on Agranox, Zestrol, and Lipitor. I was tossing the idea around that although maybe not the most effective formula, Dan Shen Yin could gently assist without excessive moving function. I am also doing scalp acupuncture and local tx for the stroke rehab. In the event of an adverse effect, I think there might be liability for taking a risk when you had concerns that coulnot be completely allayed. The only information I could find on Aggrenox (a new drug) is that it's a combination of time release aspirin (to prevent blood clots) and dipyridamole (prevents platelet clumping). Dipyridamole is often used with Warafin/Coumadin. This new drug that combines it with aspirin is targeted specifically to stroke patients. the only thing I could find on adverse reactions is that it potentiates Garlic. I would then assume that it also potentiates any of the other herbs that prevent platelet clumping such as ginger and ginkgo. I would be wary of any of the anti coagulant herbs as well. Maybe you could initiate a dialog with your patient's western physician to coordinate her care. The Zestril is a blood pressure medication and the Lipitor lowers blood cholesterol. good places to do research on western medications: http://www.healthwell.com/ and http://www.fda.gov/cder/ and http://medlineplus.gov/ -jude jude
Guest guest
Q. are there different bio-mechanisms for anti-platlet-clumping? do the one's mentioned act the same way? case: a friend of mine took alka-seltzer which had a "bit of aspirin" in it and she had a rather severe reaction, lip swelling, heat rising, mild asphyxiation, palpitations...never knew someone allergic to aspirin... just a thought.
