Guest guest
Hi All, If you have ideas on this very strange case, please write to the list, with copy to " Shar " <s3338901 Many thanks, Phil >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Shar, Re your brother-in-law: Osteo as a child: KI Xu, or KI Jing Xu? Head trauma: bone/brain trauma, exaggerating KI Xu/KI Jing Xu? Sudden alopecia: KI Xu? In winter = KI Xu? Headache: Channels from eye to occiput = GB + BL; BL = 4 pm; KI = 6 pm; Eye channels = BL, ST, GB; LV controls eye; KI controls Marrow/Brain; head trauma AFTER probable onset of calcification? Calcification = KI related? [KI controls Bone] Synthesis: 1. Suspect underlying KI Xu/KI Jing Xu with Yuanqi Xu form childhood, with head/brain/vision effects probably exaggerated by head trauma 2 years ago 2. Would suggest AP to Tonify KI (KI07), Tonify KI Yuanqi (KI03), plus alteration of points selected from: 3. Local points [GB20, GB01, GB14, BL02, ST02, Taiyang, Yintang], + 4. Distant points [LV03, ST45, GB44, BL67, LI04 + 5. Scalp or Ear Points for Eye/Vision, Occiput 6. Would also suggest Herbal Formula to Tonify KI, Tonify KI Yuanqi, Aid Vision, decalcify brain but I am not good enough to know which one. Check with experts here I would NOT, repeat NOT, allow brain biopsy!! I can see NO practical application for patient. So what if they find [as they must find] lesions? What can they do? IMO biopsy is for THEIR interest, maybe of some future value as a research finding only]. Also, there is possibility of adverse reaction to brain biopsy. Any comments from experts on the Lists? It is not possible to make a TCM dx without all the zang-fu signs, symptoms, tongue and pulse, whichare missing from this case.
Guest guest
Sorry to go at it from a western stand point, but since it is all guess work with out more details...the gold mining though fun if just panning but if from a commercial end, I seem to remember that it involves, lead or arsenic somewhere in the process....might look over the symptoms for those or have hair mineral analisis done. Guest guest
It almost sounds like Fahr disease: " a rare neurological condition, which is actually not a single entity, but represents a diverse group of disorders. The condition is characterized by abnormal calcification within certain regions of the brain, most predominantly within the basal ganglia. Symptoms develop when the deposits accumulate, including progressive deterioration of mental function, loss of previous motor development, spastic paralysis, and athetosis. In addition, optic atrophy may occur. The condition is generally considered inherited, idiopathic cases have been identified. " But you would need a professional diagnosis to verify this. Generally, pathological calcification is a result of ageing or disease; especially where the disease process has an inflammatory aspect. Another red flag is the very low cholesterol. It may be an indication of an imbalance of insulin and eicosanoids. Both are hormones and therefore related to Water (although insulin is directly related to the pancreas and Earth). This sort of hormonal imbalance leads to chronic illnesses---especially if the ratio of triglycerides to HDL is greater than 2. He may not be getting enough protein and essential fatty acids in his diet, or adopting well to vegetarianism if he chose it later in life (by 18 years old, the metabolism is fairly well set). In any case, his immune system has been repeatedly challenged by possible dietary susceptibility to inflammation, exposure to toxins, and repeated trauma. His etiology may not be due to any one thing in particular, but to an accumulated process of exposure to farm and mining chemicals along with trauma. You also have to examine the liver and lymph (Wood and Earth) when considering kidney formulas in conditions like these in order to not activate any hidden toxins. In CM terms, we would have to consider kidney yang depletion (and jing xu if there is an inherited condition), as well as depletions of Spleen and Lung. The Earth and Metal Phases (along with Water to back them up) approximate the immune system as described in WM.'s recommendation about blood stasis is appropriate due to his history of injuries. You should see choppiness in his Right Proximal fu pulse position (SJ often relates to brain) due to the calcium build up---perhaps even a stony pulse---along with various other indicators in other rpositons. Along with your other mentioned choices, you should consider doing moxa on CV4 (Guanyuan)---threadlike, 500x at one sitting. Considering his exposure to heavy metals and cyanide, maybe chelation is appropriate. Jim Ramholz
