Guest guest
All, Four articles by Nigel Wiseman responding to issues raised on the CHA list have been posted to the archives. The first: Westerners’ Alternative Health-Care Values Eclipsing a Wealth of Knowledge, (AltHealth.pdf). This paper provides an introduction to all four papers and, in Nigel's words: , " I question certain widely held views about Chinese medicine, namely that Chinese medicine is natural, holistic, caring, nonmechanistic, and even spiritual in nature. " This article is about 30 pages and meant for those whose interest is principally the acculturation issues. The second: Why the Fuss About Terminology? (TermFuss.pdf) uses a story about a fictional " Happyland " whose people wish to absorb botanical knowledge but have no words for the parts of plants to explain the practices of term development. This is a very short piece for those who are curious but not interested in much detail. The third: English Translation of Chinese Medical Terms: A Scheme Based on Integrated Principles (IntPrincip.pdf) details the translation principles in greater detail. The fourth: Against Anti-Terminology (AntiTerm.pdf) responds directly to claims and charges against term management which have appeared as CHA posts and journals. All of these are in PDF format and may be read, including the Chinese, using the free acrobat reader. Bob bob Paradigm Publications www.paradigm-pubs.com 44 Linden Street Robert L.
