Really appreciated the Reponses now that said a yet again an embarrassing occurrences has happen since it evidence the lack of training I have the so call school I went to did not emphasise read or write medical Chinese.

On page 1183 the Chinese English Traditional Medical Word-Ocean Dictionary (l994):

First the Chinese: ???

Zhi Ya Fa (Finger Press Method) A pressing manipulation in massage. it refers to and squeezing the patient the patian's acupoint forcefully with a finger. The two commonly used once are: 1 finger - moving press method, i.e. pressing the acupoint closely and forcefully, then moving repeatedly along a certain direction. 2. persistent finger - press method, i.e.. pressing the acupoint steadily with moderate force without moving the finger. See the entries of An Fa, Tian Fa and Ya Fa.

Now, this is where I have to admit my deficiencies in not knowing sufficient Chinese, and hence in this case of not being able to look An Fa, Tian Fa and Ya Fa. I know the character are in the Chinese part but not which once. (apart from I do not know how to use a Chinese-English dictionary such as this one.)

In A Practical Dictionary of second edition N. Wiseman and F. Ye, page 5

Acupressure zhi zhen: synonym: shiatsu. A method of treatment involving the application of finger pressure at acupuncture points.

These two above books are of course some of my greeters fortune, to have a copy/edition of each respectively. (many thanks to all the authors).

However this particular entry zhi zhen page five is another example of why one would want to be able to look at first hand source material. Whether acupressure and shiatsu are synonyms depends probably al lot on the person mediating/delivering the treatment.

I for one would probably easier do some forms of acupressure then some forms of shiatsu. In a treatment setting I tend to apply manual manipulation and accept the importance of making therapeutic exercises either before during or after needling, as well as emphasis things one can do in ones own time, thanks to the little I know about Japanese acumoxa. (not all patience complies which is an art in it self to animate the person.)

As a parenthesis if anyone ever consider holiday or for what ever reason passing through (better still moving to Guatemala please keep me in mind, we need qualified people:-)

The question is if some one do not mind mentioning which pages An Fa, Tian Fa and Ya Fa can be found respectively would be most greatful.

Marco
