Guest guest
Dear Group, Has anyone heard of Ba Wang Hua, Hylocerus flower? I can't find it in my books. A student of mine brought some in, and it looks light and fluffy, like a freesia, and tastes salty and sweet, like dulse. What are its properties and actions? Guest guest
Dear Julie, according to the Zhongyao Dacidian Ba Wang Hua is one of the synonyms for Jian Hua (same 'hua', i.e. flower). The full botanical Latin name is given as Hylocereus undatus (Haw.) Britt. et Rose, so we can translate it as 'Hylocerei Flos' (didn't find a vernacular word). the Zhong Da, besides botanical, harvesting & chemical info further tells us that the flower is sweet indeed ;-), and 'slighty cold'. actions according to one author: " stops Qi pain; rectifies/manages/deals with phlegm fire cough; take it with pork-meat soup. " and another author: " clears heat & moistens the lung; stops cough; treats pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchitis, knotted lymph-nodes in the neck & parotitis'' Greetings, Herman Oving (currently Bencao- & dictionary reader & involved in Chinese medical language education for TCM-people in Holland) > Thu, 01 Aug 2002 21:25:04 -0700 > Julie Chambers <info > Ba Wang Hua/Hylocerus flower > > Dear Group, > > Has anyone heard of Ba Wang Hua, Hylocerus flower?
