Is this the entire case? No other data on digestion, urination, menses, etc., etc.? Blood stasis is often implicated in very stubborn depression. Xue fu zhu yu tang is indicated for this pattern. I often find confirming signs and symptoms and have good results if this is the case. Blue poppy has recently introduced a formula that addresses this pattern as well as its typical concomitant paterns, such as liver depression and heart blood vacuity. Your patient has some s/s of both of these as well. I am always careful not to overlook the vacuity and often combine xi yang shen or white ginseng into the formulas. both seem to improve energy without disturbing sleep.
