Guest guest
Hello all, Can some one explain what an acupuncture/orthopedics certification allows acupuncturist to do in his/her practice? How long is the program and how much does it cost? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Hi Thomas and anyone else interested, Acupuncture Orthopedics is a 1 year long course of (10) modules, provides lots of information that we need as Primary Care Providers. In addition we need to do 40 clinical hours of observation with any MD, PT radiology lab, etc. As far as I know there are 2 people who teach this course. There is Dr. Fred Lerner, DC and there is Dr. Hu * I believe is his name* the former is taught more from a Western Med perspective and the latter has more TCM. I just completed my 8th Module with Fred. Most of the Modules have been super fantastic and a couple a bit redundant. One thing is for sure that I am much more confident in doing Ortho Neuro Exams, ie. muscle testing and the release of muscles. I am certainly more confident as to when to refer out. The bottom line is that, I believe, it is imperative for us to build relationships with Medical Doctors. They are a super referral source and I personally want to have relationships with them, so I know who to refer my patients to. The following is some of what we have learned: 1. Advanced skills in western diagnosis and treatment 2. Medico-legal expertise 3. Professional standards 4. Efficient office procedures A total of 300 continuing education units are awarded. Successful completion of the 10 modules allows one to sit for the National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics exam. After passing the exam a certification in Acupuncture Orthopedics will be awarded. Diplomate status in the NBAO is recognized by insurance companies, adjusters, attorney's etc. The course is a bit pricey, however that seems to be the case with ALL CEU's. It is $300.00 a Module. It is a tax write off, so that is a good thing. I hope that helps! In Health, Teresa Hall BTW there has been a Thomas Ly who has visited our class... I guess there are 2 of you out there! - " Thomas Ly " <eastwestpaincenter Saturday, August 17, 2002 2:18 PM acupuncture/orthopedics certification > Hello all, > Can some one explain what an acupuncture/orthopedics > certification allows acupuncturist to do in his/her > practice? > > How long is the program and how much does it cost? > > Thanks in advance. > > Humbly yours, > Thomas > > * The true measurement of success is not how many > servants one has, but how people one serves * > > > > HotJobs - Search Thousands of New Jobs > http://www.hotjobs.com > > > > Chinese Herbal Medicine, a voluntary organization of licensed healthcare practitioners, matriculated students and postgraduate academics specializing in Chinese Herbal Medicine, provides a variety of professional services, including board approved online continuing education. > > > >

Dr. Gu is his name and his students rave about him. Nice guy as far as I can tell, but my interactions with him is limited to pleasantries in social situations. Guest guest
For me, the difference is that I can promote myself as having post graduate studies in Acupuncture Orthopedics. No different then if I would have taken Bob Flow's Gyn Certification program. I do not think it really has anything to do with legalities, at least not yet.
