Hi group,

I am wondering if anyone else is concerned about the reality that their are no laws or real regulations about the prescribing herbs. It has recently come to my attention that Ma Huang may be completely banned, as a result of its mis-use. If herbs were regulated and everyone who wanted them had to go to a licensed herbalist/Acupuncturist ie Practioneer of Oriental Medicine, it would help our profession tremendously. Ma Huang is a very safe herb when it is prescribed by practioneers who know what they are doing. I have thought/ known for years that Herbalife/lite was not a "good thing" . I have taken it a couple of times and had a racing heart with palpitations, excess sweating, not to mention edginess and irriatblity. It comes as not surprise that this "Nutriotional Supplement" is being banned. I am however greatly concerned that Ma Huang/Ephedrae may be banned all together. My understanding that there are people lobbying the govenor on this.

If you are concerned perhaps you should write a letter to Governor Gray Davis letting him know that you support Herb Ephadre being administered and prescribed by qualified Practioneers of Oriental Medicine.

Just a thought!

the bill regulating ephedra in CA that will be signed by the

governor bans the sale to minors and requires certain labeling.

it does not appear to have any affect on the sale and use by

adults and licensed practitioners.
