Guest guest
Dear Marian, Sorry for not getting back to you soon. In my clnical practice I have'nt encountered the " LUB..dub.........................................LUB..dub " pulse that you so vividly described. However, It looks like one of the an " unusual pulses " or guai mai called que zhuo mai or 'sparrow pecking pulse'. Zhao Yin Jian in his book TCM Study on Pulse Diagnosis Zhong yi mai zhen xue (Tianjin Scence and Technology Publishing House ,l990, p. 568) quotes TCM practitioners in ancient past who described this pulse as similar to the " sparrow pecking (on food) continuously, and then stopping to turn its head and neck around, fearing that something might catch it. " They also considered this pulse as an indication of a severe condition whereby the " spleen is running out of grain Qi gu qi inside " . And that if one is conscious with this pulse he can only live for eleven days; while if awake he can only live for 6-7 days " . A practice in " death forcasting " that some ancient TCM practitioners have gained notoriety for . Zhao Yin Jian also included some modern biomedical study of this type of pulse using the ECG, which made him conclude that this type of pulse indicates " that the heart (biomedical) has sustained organic damage " qi zhi xing bing bian .
