Hello, has anyone ever heard of using horse gallstones to treat? A Chinese

herbalist in Canada who has been practicing for over 20 years said that it is

quite effective for asthma and reducing phlegm heat. I have never heard of it

before. My aunt (a TCM practitioner for 40 years who helped to integrate

Western and Eastern medicine in China) has never used horse gallstones. Bear

gallstones and cow gallstones she has used, but never horse. Has anyone

ever heard of using horse gallstones?

Dear LiMing,

In Tibet and in Greco-Arabic medicine, gall stones of several

animals were used in medicine for similar uses as the bear and cow

gallstones. In Greco-Arabic medicine it was called bezoar. I have a

medical thanka painting from Tibet with several different types of

gallstone pictured.

I'll try to find the horse gallstone in the Chinese materia medica

if I have a chance.
