Will I agree; short-term symptomatic relief from black-coffee may be like the " hair of the dog " - the effect of the first alcoholic dring on the morning of a hangover! I would suspect " masked allergy " / coffee intolerance [as in the books by Richard Mackarness ( " Not All in the Mind " ), Dr. Brenemann (?spelling??; I forget the title but it was on food allergies). Those who have not read Mackarness and Brenemann (or others) on the topic of masked allergies/food intolerance are missing a treat. Some of my most astonishing results [in humans] were in helping sufferers to identify the culprit foods/drinks. Their removal led to some dramatic immprovements in S & Ss that had been there for a long time before that.
