They are not just row powders. Also these are usually used when long term therapy is indicated. Also, let us not forget, that traditionally (especially warm disease) pills are used for many acute and quite severe problems as well... Although they are usually prescribed with a decoction. -

They are not just row powders. that's not true. they may be blended with a hot binding mixture, but this neither constitutes cooking nor concentrated extraction in my opinion. the final product is still extremely weak at the doses on the label. however they may be used in china, they are not used in this form to treat serious complaints by themselves (taking them with decoctions has nothing to do with my post either). that is my point, my only point on this matter actually. The evidence that this is true is overwhelming in my experience, meaning the vast majority of practitionrs from China I have surveyed report this to me. the few exceptions like yourself are curious, but not enough to change my mind one iota. Not only I visited our hospital manufacturing but also visited 3 other factories in canton. In all the herbs were cooked into a paste then made into thin sheet that was put in a roller mixer (like a cement mixer) which make these little balls. In commercial factories they were then put in another mixer to polish them, not in our hospital. Now it true that the vast majority of patients were treated with decoctions, many only wanted pills.
