Guest guest
I also am a practitioner of martial arts (Chen Taijiquan), and like many this led me to begin studying TCM. Qigong is an important part of Taijiquan and means simply " energy skill " (forgive my poor translation) the concept of qigong as I have understood it, means a skill or practice of cultivating energy. It is trained in some TCM hospitals in china, and in fact there are TCM doctors in china that specialize in nothing but qi healing and it is quite amazing to see and hear of their accomplishments. As for gaining skill without moving, one of the first qigong forms I trained it was a for called post sitting. This name comes from the idea of maintaining a relaxed non moving state for a VERY long time. As my teacher would say, once your muscles get tired your bones will hold you up, once your bones get tired your qi will hold you up. That was perhaps one of the more grueling training sessions I have had in my martial arts training. Here are a few links about both the internal martial arts, which I train in, and one day hope to offer to my patients, as well as qigong. I have a few more and if anyone is interested please contact me offlist, as I rarely have time to read these and reply in a timely manner. I do not pretend to know a lot about them, but perhaps if we all pool what we have learned and experienced we can gain a better understanding based upon first hand experiences!
