Guest guest
Just picked up Chinese Materia Medica, Combinations and Applications by Xu Li and Wang Wei after seeing it on Will Morris's desk. It's from Donica Publishing- Isbn 1 901149 02 1. It's big, 850 pages, and pretty darn good for what it does. There's not a lot of new single herb information versus Bensky but devotes half the words to combinations and application including processing. Heavily foodnoted with Chinese studies. Very readible, Pinyin predominates with charactors at the headlines, and the terminology is self-described as the " middle way " between Wiseman and Maciocia. I don't know Donica Publishing but I wouldn't be surprised if it is an off shoot of Livingston Publisher because it shares the same print, feel and quality. It's around $85 US. Just after I bought it, I was a bit disappointed because nothing seemed new. But last night while reading it, I realized it was a much better book to have in the clinic because of the discussions and tables of combinations. Well done. Guest guest
Doug - Can I just say I like the way the book looks and feels? After reading you post I picked it up again and it has a few other features that are useful: 1. International legal status on toxic herbs such as fu zi (boy I sure could use a source that discusses the specific symptoms of toxicity for each herb) 2. Appendices - eleven of 'em 3. Cites for the quoted research Will But last night while reading it, I realized it was a much better book to have in the clinic because of the discussions and tables of combinations. Well done.
