Guest guest
Dear Group, Xian Mao is hot and toxic and harsh and should not be used singly, long-term. How then can it be a "longevity" herb? How long can it be safely used, and what is the specific toxicity? Thank you. Julie Chambers
Guest guest
Most Chinese books say it's only slightly toxic (xiao3 du2), but a few say it's toxic (you3 du2). Some say it's hot (re4), some say it's warm (wen1). I've never heard it called a longevity herb. It is considered harsh and all sources say it's not suitable to be used long term as a tonic herb.
