Guest guest
As you pointed out, the lung problems are a result of the interferon " overdose " . Herbs with interferon are generally safe, only chai hu has been implicated, although I stay away from wu wei zi because of a note in Bensky. There are also studies that show that herbs with interferon have a better chance of being successful in ridding the virus. (Otherwise there is a 50-50 chance) . doug > > I think we may want to consider the > use of interferon therapy to be an absolute contraindication to > the use of any herbs until further study is done. the japanese > studies involved powdered extracts at doses as low as 6-9 > grams per day. so we can assume that moderate to high > material doses are potentially dangerous. some of you may > have had no problems using patents in such patients, but the > risk may be too high for high dose powders or decoctions. In the absence of proof of safety, I will not use any herbs in patients taking interferon.
