Bringing the past into the present, y'know. the concept of diffusion of cultures has not held favor in mainstream anthropological circles for probably a century. It is now believed that that there were no seminal cultures that seeded all the rest. However, we are left with remarkable coincidences that are left unexplained, such as those you cite. Nevertheless, diffusionist theories remain seductive and I find myself ever fascinated with fiction that picks up this thread. It is a popular topic that finds life in media as diverse as the Stargate television series to the purportedly scholarly works of zechariah stichin (in both cases postulating an extraterrestrial influence on the earliest civilizations).
