About translating from old-greek to old-arab:

If I were in germany in the 12-16th century,

I could translate the chinese teachings in a way

that knowledged medieval medicals and monks could understand the

heart of CM.

In my search for western equivalents for the chinese characters

I found the essays of the german Paracelsus who still

had words for yin-deficiency, qi-block, blood stagnation.

His writings are very hard to read as language has changed a lot.

The knowledge is partly lost and partly kept secret.

By using chinese characters (characters on which I meditated, looked

up classical citings...painted them stroke by stroke over and over)

I could find the bridge

to the 'traditional western medicine'.

During the chemical and biological revolution when people found out

which chemicals put together would react to what,

the old terms describing yin-deficiency in german

where ascribed NEW meanings, old texts were thrown away as nonsense

rubbish.

(oh, just like in turkey the old medicine (Avicenna/Unani) got lost

with the old turkish writing being

exchanged to western alphabet, old turkish medical books became

unreadable and were thrown away)

If for example the word 'mercury' was used for Qi, the chemical-

revolution found out the 'real' properties of mercury and thus lost

the 'old' symbolical meaning and thus corrected this 'scientific

error' (chinese characters still carry these symbols, a professors

interprets them different than a peasant but they both know the

character).

------------------------------

Here is an example from 1850 BEFORE the electrical-science-revolution

(this revolution defined clearly what electricity is and what not)

" Nachdem nun Blutkrankheiten meistens von dem Nichtfunktionieren des

elektrischen Herdes im menschlichen Körper, also der Milz

herkommen, ... "

" blood-diseases mostly stem from the non-functioning of the

electrical generator in the human body, called the spleen... "

Well, electrical generator and spleen have new scientific definitions

which rendered the old knowledge worthless and 'stupid'.

-------------------------------

Now to my sarcastic bits:

When explaining TCM to my patient I never use liver or kidney.

They would run to their doctors to get these checked.

I ask for their spiritual/scientific background and translate it

to electrical schemes, chemical dynamics or 4 elements dynamics or...

I am sick of the professors fighting 'I found the right language!'.

I will stay in my chinese-language-closet until you stop fighting.

I feel lonely and sad.

I had to study westernmedical-chinese to keep in touch with

the recent developments in the scientific chinese TCM scene.

Diseases are being sorted in new ways since 1999-2001.

Classics from 1975 are being rewritten and 'medical errors' are

corrected.

Tinnitus got divorced from deafness, chemical-accident-deafness was

included and Vertigo

is now to be found in the EarNoseThroatMouthcavity-book.

Multiple Sclerosis is found in 'Nervous Diseases'.

Still based on the SuWen and still citing it. In Chinese.

now switiching over to cynism...

The actual translated english books are based

on the classics from 1975.

Books from 2002 are now too thick to be translated.

My thickest book on gynecology has 1640chinese pages ($16) which

would translate

as 3x1640 western pages. Wondering which elite student could afford

it in english...

---------------------------

I just shuffled some thoughts I had reading through this piweilun-

thread.

Greetings from a turkish german, Tay.
