Dear Robert and list

 

When I first came back to Guatemala nearly three years ago and no Spanish what so ever under my belt my treating people in an acceptable manner was lacking.

 

I have started to become more interested in Japanese acumoxa because it somehow seams more actively interactive with the patient( as from what I was taught, which today looking back am not really sure what it was). I want to find out about Korean constitutional acumoxa (ANY SUGGESTIONS ANY ONE?).

 

This does not negate the need to learn Chinese at least if your are on your own and want to learn more and participate in the practice of Chinese medicine as an inter-dependent practitioner rather then a dependent practioner. I have also mention before that in the long run I think that knowing Japanese and other Asian language will certainly be on par of aiding a conscientious acculturation of Oriental medicine - Chinese medicine into a country like Guatemala. I am also slowly trying to learn an indigenous language and feel this is the only means to reduce some of the injustice that are taking place with regard to cultural neglect and active ignorance of indigenous Native American medicine - culture in Guatemala.

 

Hence learning as diverse practical-theoretical constructs will no doubt be of clinical usefulness here as well as learning at least one Asian language (I am trying to learn Chinese because frankly Ken's arguments et.al. make a whole lot of sense if developments has a long term and continuous embrace as objective). Then, maybe more people will opt for learning Chinese and or other East Asian languages as well as travelling to be apprentices with you and others, as well as you and others "would" come down to Guatemala this would indeed be great "kick starting" the process of making Chinese medicine utilised in Guatemala...

 

What I am trying to get at is that an inclusive approach to Chinese medicine is what I am trying to promote here in Guatemala.

 

 

You speak Spanish since your wife is from this part of the world. Cuba less I am mistaking...

We had some Cubans doctors explaing about integrated family practice in Cuba as part of public health approach a fascinating learning experience a sturdily people indeed. In years to come it probably will be very interesting to see how the Cuban experience with traditional medicine and health care for all will manifest. What I do know is that they (Cuba) have had successive teams of Chinese and Vietnamese doctors i.e. Traditional doctors station in Cuba both in a academic and clinical capacity.

 

Some Cuban doctors practice F.A.C.Y as developed in Vietnam. Any one on this list know more about Facial Acupuncture and Cybernetics?

 

I am given the impression that it works well on a Barefoot doctor level. Now this brings the question what is the general level of training outside of Asia how "confident" can one be that the learning is more level with higher education in say China and Korea then "basic" barefoot level.

 

The book soon to be published by Paradigm press Ten lectures less I am mistaking Unschuld in History of ideas mention the Author of this book as a educational specialist for the barefoot doctor movement in China, or that a book of this name was written for barefoot doctor movement. (I am very much looking forward to the publication of this book...)

 

I may be totally miss-construing things but it would be interesting to find out. Now the vast experience of China is nearly on the verge of "scary" the book:

 

A barefoot doctor's manual is in a class of its own compare to anything that I thus far have seen produced here in Guatemala either on a governmental level or by non governmental organisations that all claim to promoting and using "alternative-Traditional-what not" medicine (one thing for sure is that China and other Asian countries has not just paid lip service to Traditional medicine).

 

We are at such an level that the "mere" translation (with adaptations of course) of this just mention book would aid greatly in co-ordinate health care promotional work by the health workers in rural arias.

 

I am learning that there is more and more reasons as to create a institute - NGO that has as functional objective:

 

Research and development and the practice of all aspects of Chinese medicine here in Guatemala for public health care purposes. Hopefully it is "just" a question of time...
