Guest guest
There have been a number of references to different materia medicas on the list. What is the most comprehensive materia medica in english? Is it Hong-yen Hsu's Oriental Materia Medica? And in Chinese? Also on this theme, has anyone gotten a pre-publication peak at the new 10 LEctures by Jiao Shu-De translated by mitchell and ergil? If so is it worth pre-ordering? Guest guest
Jiao Shu-de's text is definitely worth pre-ordering. It should be out very soon. All the English materia medicas are about the same, in terms of amount of herbs and information. Hong-yen Hsu's has some additional, unusual medicinals but much of the pharmacological info is out of date. The Zhong yao da ci dian, with about 5000 medicinals, is far more comprehensive than anything in English. Guest guest
ditto. bensky is still the best, but I like wang and xu. Hsu is the only = place to find a lot of obscure herbs in english. you definitely need a copy. It is m= y understanding that most of the herbs in zhong yao da ci dian are in very limited use, if at all. So it is not like we are really missing out on tho= usands of herbs, but it also has much more info on the ones we use all the time (25 pages on chai hu, I think). Most people rely on less 200 herbs in daily practice. , " " < zrosenbe@s...> wrote: > Jiao Shu-de's text is definitely worth pre-ordering.
