Guest guest
Hi All, > ...rhubarb improves the quality of bile. So if you are secreting > thin, immature bile you will have diarrhea. Secreting thick > viscous bile will lead to constipation. Rhubarb affects both of > these situations. Prof Burke-McAleer, our Vet Physiology Prof, taught us the functions of bile in the following jingle in 1961; The bile of the liver saponifies fat; it helps to absorb and emulsify that; it saves putrefaction aod PURGES a bit and stercobilinogen colours the s**t! Re homeostatic effects of herbs (ex: dahuang), or AP points (ex: ST36-zusanli), the same herb or AP point can have diametrically opposite effects depending on the deviation of the patient from the norm. For example, Dahuang or ST36 can treat diarrhoea in one patient and constipation in another. I am confused, however, by conflicting statements on the DOSE of dahuang re diarrhoea/constipation. This is OPPOSITE to what I would expect; i.e. I would expect LOW doses to ASTRINGE and HIGH doses to PURGE. Please comment once more!
