All,

That is the pre-announcement data supplied to RWBowker on the ISBN

registration forms. July might be a touch hopeful (it is still in galley) and

the price is subject to change.

Hummm! What did Amazon say, the book is not a translation with

commentary. (I have the galley.)

This is the first of a possibly twenty volume work product from Prof.

Unschuld's Nei Jing project. The project is in, I believe, its 14th year and

began with a Chinese-Western project that acquired copies of the known

and dated artifacts, as well a copies and quotations relative to the NeiJing

scripts in succeeding eras. It is the outcome of a team endeavor that has

involved experts in all the sinological fields, extensive sinological review, as

well as some unusual vetting. For example, experts in code-breaking were

used to develop algorythms for discovering whether characters in what are

purported to be NeiJing editions of a particular date could have been used

in the era claimed. This helps determine what has been added, when and by

whom.

I have meant to review the text for the network but have yet to finish. In

brief, as the initial volume it puts forward evidence from the text and the

surrounding culture as to how the thinkers of the period could have

conceived of nature, what they understood knowledge to be, and what the

images they used to express themselves meant to them. What I personally

found delightful was how he organized the text thematically. For example,

ideas related to therapeutic intervention are ordered by topic and

statements from through-out the text are brought together to show the

unfixed nature of the ideas. It is like a window on a formative stage of

thinking about humankind, life and health that lead to the concepts of

Chinese medicine.
