In your discussion of naturopathy, you mentioned an example of a client with rheumatoid arthritis who has been in remission for 4 years which you consider to be typical of your RA patients. I have not treated anyone with RA and am curious how long it usually takes before you notice obvious results and if you could decribe the process more fully.

My interest is somewhat tied to a 60 yr. old female client that I am treating who has swelling/bone deformities showing up on her index and ring fingers.

Do you or anyone out there have any general treatment recommendations that have proven to be effective in similar cases? Any input on or off list would be appreciated. Thanks.

Neil,

Just translated yesterday an article on a Chinese clinical trial for

RA where they used large doses (30g each p.d.) of Plastrum Testudinis

(Gui Ban) and Radix Albus Paeoniae Lactiflorae (Bai Shao) specifically

for RA deformation of the joints. The author related such deformation

to liver blood-kidney yin vacuity. These meds were added to a larger

formula which supplemented and boosted the liver and kidneys, freed

the flow of wind, cold, damp impediment, quickened the blood and

opened the network vessels. The base formula was a version of Ban Long

Tang (Spotted Dragon Decoction). This article will be published on

Apr. 1 in the Blue Poppy On-line Chinese Medical Journal at

www.bluepoppy.com.

There's a relatively huge body of literature on the CM treatment of RA

in Chinese medical journals. I would say close to an article per 2-3

issues per journal. If you figure 30 journals X 12 months per year,

that's a lot of articles, a lot of information. I have found many good

clinical tips on treating RA in these articles over the years.

Bob,

Can you provide some new sources/addresses to order subscriptions to

Chinese journals? I used to get them from East Wind in San Francisco,

but they no longer provide this service.

Thanks,
