Guest guest
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/446350_4 This article on depression makes it unequivocally clear that the same chemical mediators are involved in both chronic physical AND emotional pain. Both of these symptoms of pain and depression are involved with qi stagnation in TCM. Is there some identity between the circulation of neurotransmitters (NT'S) and the circulation of qi? This article explains how a wide range of physical symptoms occur with depression (chronic pain is reported in 92% of cases upon intake). I would say rather it shows that depression and chronic pain have a common biochemical correlation. It may also suggest how acupuncture is so effective in a wide range of so-called psychosomatic complaints involving pain, fatigue, digestion and sleep. Acupuncture has a fairly well established effect on altering circulating NT's, the best known being the endorphins.
