Guest guest
Dear group, Whilst attending a beginning Qigong class a few years ago, my instructor –a diabetic- circulated the following in the form of a hand out. Folded in half and the message printed on both sides, it remains on my dining table thus assuring me each day of its powerfulness. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE FIVE CONTEMPLATIONS BEFORE EATING: * This food is the gift of the whole Universe, the earth, the sky and much hard work. * May we behave in a way that makes us worthy to receive it. * May we transform our unskillful states of mind and learn to eat in moderation. * May we take only foods that nourish us and prevent illness. * We accept this food so that we may realize the path of understanding and love. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Knowing many who have diabetes and how the foods we eat are directly related to the cause and/or prevention of said disease, my personal diet is important. After perusing the following two articles ask yourself the question " as a practitioner of TCM, how important to me is my diet? " . Curious to hear some responses. The first is a recent New York Times book review: http://query.nytimes.com/search/full-page?res=9E05E1D9103FF931A25752C0A9659C8B63 A very interesting read! The second is a news article from the American Broadcasting Company website dated July 2002: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/fatsuit020725.html For those who were dismayed by the impact the 'tobacco lawsuits' had should have their interest piqued on this question. This class action suit will be interesting to follow in the coming months.
