Guest guest
Dear Todd: You asked me, " Are aware of any evidence that certain schools of japanese kampo rejected intellectual discourse and extensive textual study in favor of direct experience due to the influence of zen. " I'm sorry, but I have no knowledge to answer your question. I know that sometimes Doctor Miki Shima uses Yi Ching to choose a formula, but not Zen... On the other hand, the way of diagnosis and prescription in Kampo therapy largely depends on " direct experiences " of masters and, commonly, does not pay much attention to the functions of formulas and each of the herbs that construct the formula. If you think that is " rejecting intellectual discourse and extensive textual study, " I have to say, generally " yes. " Acupuncturist Shinjiro Shinjiro Kanazawa, L.Ac.
