Hi everyone-

I'm new to this list but have an interest in and a love for Chinese herbal medicine and all of its applications. I am currently a second year student at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego. I had the list moderator, for a teacher in Herbs 1 and currently he is my clinic supervisor. I thought I'd join the list and see firsthand what he's begun. In my studies, I have learned all of the individual herbs that are taught as part of PCOM's curriculum and now am starting to study formulas. A year ago, I learned about Blue Poppy's website through Todd's class and joined it as a student for access to research articles of interest. My background includes a B.S. in Psychology and I worked for a while as a mental health and substance abuse counselor so one area of interest for me is shen disturbance and how herbs may help treat such patients. From one position I had for a year and a half working with mainly schizophrenics in a group home setting, I was frustrated by how many prescription pharmaceuticals many of them are on and how those drugs impact the liver and kidney while at best masking symptomatology and at worst causing many side affects like a further numbing of the shen while not fully addressing the chief complaint. Other areas of interest for me are orthopedics, dermatology and "acupuncture facelifts". Thank you for letting me be a part of this forum.

Sincerely,

"Eris" M. Murphy
