Dear Colleagues,

If you know a good acupuncturist and/or herbalist near Manchester

(UK), please forward his/her email address offlist to:

Andy Jones <andrew.x.jones.

Andy needs to discuss the best options to treat his father's tinnitus

and related problems.

Any comments on my reply to Andy (see below)? Do any disagree

that success in tinnitus is <50%?

Best regards,

Phil

Phil, I have just being doing a little research, on behalf of my

father who suffers from tinnitus, and have come across your paper

regarding the use of acupuncture as a treatment of tinnitus.

http://users.med.auth.gr/~karanik/english/articles/tinnit.html

It seems that this has very little positive results, apart from the

general effect of wellbeing (sleeping, breathing, circulation etc) and

wanted to know if there have been any further developments

regarding this subject.

My father suffers from mild tinnitus and currently uses an analogue

hearing aid as a blocker for the problematic frequencies. A digital

hearing aid will become available later on in the year, but i wanted

to know if you have any advice, or put me in touch with anyone else

who could provide this, about any other treatments for tinnitus, other

than the usual " societies " ? best regards Andy Jones

Hi Andrew,

I am a vet researcher with very limited experience in treating

tinnitus; my results have been useless in the few human cases

that I have tried to treat.

Tinnitus itself is very difficult to cure; best results from reputable

colleagues are 40-50%. Herbalists also admit to poor results in

that condition. However, acupuncture can help tinnitus-sufferers in

OTHER ways.

In TCM theory, many men with tinnitus have other signs of " kidney

Qi deficiency " (male menopause, hot flushes, poor sleep, leaking

semen, impotence/partial impotence, bone/joint problems, back-

ache, hip/knee weakness, etc. Though acupuncture or herbal

medicine may not clear the ear symptom, they often help the other

signs.

If you wish, and if you give me the name of the place/city in which

your father lives, I will pass your email to UK colleagues on List for

professional acupuncturists

<ACUPUNCTURE. I will ask

colleagues who practice near that place to contact you.

Let me know,

Phil

[Andy replied with permission to post this, and saying that his

father lives in Manchester]
