Guest guest
Al, Prescribing herbs to a two year old has never presented as a problem to me. I generally prescribe raw herbs to children as young as one or two months old. My own 3 months old daughter had chickenpox a few weeks ago. I prescribed her some medicine and she was well in two days. Children need small doages and generally respond extremely quickly. Most important, don't overtreat. Just a push in the right direction is enough. However, I need to add that this is only the case if the diet is correct. There is nothing more important than a healthy diet for young children. This means: no sugar (no fruit juice, candy, etc.), no wheat, no dairy. Good luck with your case. Simon Becker -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht-----Von: Al Stone [alstone]Gesendet: Donnerstag, 27. Cheif complaint isfood allergies and excema.I'm expecting perhaps some spleen qi deficiency, heat, dampness. Notquite sure how the diagnosis will look, but the one concern that I haveis giving this child herbs at this age.I use the powdered extracts.Does anybody have any words of caution in this case, specifically in theuse of herbs for such a young digestive system which is likely alreadyin a pathological state.-- Al Stone L.Ac.<AlStonehttp://www.BeyondWellBeing.comPain is inevitable, suffering is optional.Chinese Herbal Medicine, a voluntary organization of licensed healthcare practitioners, matriculated students and postgraduate academics specializing in Chinese Herbal Medicine, provides a variety of professional services, including board approved online continuing education. Guest guest
I agree that herbs are appropriate even for very small children. As with adults compliance is an issue. I usually give the child the fx in my office if it is his first time. I've found that toddlers will often like the taste. Sometimes of course they hate it and I have to tell the parent to try to be creative, put it in favorite food or drink. But i try the kid first because i've found that the parent can bias the child if she thinks it tastes bad. Its great fun to have a 2 yr. demanding more herbs, and mom explaining that he has to wait til later.
