It sometimes seems to me that we address everything as a matter of changing curriculum or adding classes. There is something to be said for the human interaction that the comes from a self-directed search for a teacher, immersion with fellow students, particularly as regards any of the martial arts, traditional crafts or fine arts. In my opinion, one of the best ways to gain a working sense of how Asian peoples think is to have dinner at each other's place, to talk while sweeping the dojo, to engage the basic human stuff.
