Phil there is no reason to redirect this discussion. pulse is an essential topic of choinese herbology. I personally do not have timefor multiple lists. If there are those on this list who do not appreciate this discussion,I have not heard so. But consider it officially sanctioned and use your delete button as necessary. :-)
Guest guest
how the main pulse-types may be defined, and whether or not a computer-controlled instrument to generate a palpable (physical) and consistent representation of the main pulse anomalies could be designed for teaching and research purposes. Best regards,Phil, I had a Korean manufacturer-customer of herbal extracts near Chicago, Illinois called Soolim, Inc. Gina Lee, the owner, would send Dr. Kang, where I work in San Francisco, a complex grahic output of her pulses along with a polaroid shot of her tongue. Dr. Kang would speak to her on the phone while looking at her pulses and tongue and write a prescription. We'd fax it to her, and she'd measure out her herbs, cook them and drink the tea. Everything worked well. She never revealed to me the Korean device that she used to get the graphic output of her pulses. Are you familiar with that sort of apparatus? She moved to Korea over one year ago, but I might still be able to contact her to ask about it. Emmanuel Segmen

Emmanuel: Check and see if it is the Hee Soo Type of electronic pulse reading device by Dr. Hee Soo Baek. I've never seen the apparatus but I have a copy of a pulse diagnosis book used with it. The book is an interesting and reliable discussion of pulses, with illustrations. My teacher mentioned it and was always interested in developing a pulse reading machine, but it never materialized---probably because the information is very basic. There was a vendor in one of the crosswalk tunnels beneath a busy intersection in Kunming who had an apparatus that was velcro'd over someone's radial artery and the attached computer would somehow read the pulse and spit out a printout of the pulse complete with a rudimentary evaluation. I came up yin deficient. This is definately me. My pulse is on the thin side. I don't think that this device could do much more than read the basic parameters such as length, depth, speed, rhythm and width, but it was a reasonable start. Probably do a pretty good business on a cart in a shopping mall too. : ) -- Al Stone L.Ac. <AlStone http://www.BeyondWellBeing.com Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
