Stephen,

Curse you!...and thank you.

You got me thinking about something, and

now I've got to write yet another post to

CHA.

OK. You asked for it. Here is this week's

topic...

What is being compared when we use the

terms zheng4 qi4 and xie2 qi4?

You asked that I introduce a phrase

and discuss its meaning. Here are two,

for the price of one!

All I ask is that before I get into my

rant about what these two terms mean,

others on the list join in the discussion.

I'm very curious to know what people

understand zheng4 qi4 and xie2 qi4 to

mean and what the comparison is.

In other words, when you look at your

patient, how do you know if you are

observing zheng4 qi4 or xie2 qi4?

Alon, I'm particularly interested to

hear your thoughts on this topic, as

it might prove an opportunity for me

to respond directly to what I have

to imagine is, from your perspective

still a long unanswered question as

to how knowledge of the ins and outs

of the characters can influence one's

understanding of the terms, the theories

which they make up, and the clinical

application thereof.

And of course, I'm interested to learn

any and everybody else's views on the

matter. I've recently entered into

one of those nagging and annoying periods in life

when it seems that I just don't understand

anything. And I'm hoping that the rest

of you on the list can help me.

Ken
