Guest guest
I said to my teacher: " This Chinese novel I started reading is a little bit boring. " And my teacher replied: " You aren't going to find a Chinese novel taking you straight to the point. We are going around the point and eventually getting closer to the middle. " I remembered a little boy I knew when my son was four, who always walked the perimeter of a new playground before making an encounter. And in my mind's eye I saw myself walking the rim of a fiery volcano. An herb pharmacy student said to me: " Several of us went to the dean in that first year to complain about our teachers because nobody was getting it, but now I don't think it was them. When we asked one instructor a difficult question she told us, 'First pick up the watermelon, then, if you can, pick up the sesame seeds.' " In my mind I saw the green of the baseball diamond and the pitchers mound; the batters running around the diamond thinking the game is all about them, and the pitcher knows it's all about him. Thank you Todd. This is the best party I've been to in a long time, where people ask smart questions about Chinese medicine.
