I have read a news in Chinese regarding a consensus herbal formula

published by the Chinese Administration of TCM, which apparently has

been ?effective? against SARS clinicly in Northern part of China. If

anybody is interested, send me an email to request the news. Or, I may

have to translate it into English and post it here.

If you don't have time to translate and post it, scan it in as a

picture (JPG or GIF format) and post it to the files section. It

will be interesting to see.

Who has used it and says it has been effective?

Dear Dan, Jim,

Thanks for posting the news item, Dan. I also had a look at the Sohu Chinese news website and it looks pretty good.

The formula first of all is an Atypical pneumonia prevention herbal formula and not a treatment formula. Experts from the the All China TCM Society which formulated the SARS prevention herbal formula is preparing a number of herbal formulations for treatment purposes on the basis of the various clinical stages in the development of the infectious disease . It will be good to get these formulae in the future.

The ingredients of the SARS Herbal Prevention Formula are:

1. Raw Huang Qi 15 gm

2. yin hua 15 gm

3,chai hu 10 gm

4.huang qin 10 gm

5.ban lan gen 10 gm.

6.guan zhong 15 gm

7. cang zhu 10 gm

8. raw yi ren 15 gm.

8. fang feng 10 gm

9. raw gan cao 5 gm

10. huo xiang 10 gm

All the above ingredients are decocted and taken once daily . However spedific dose was not indicated.Patients who have a weak spleen and stomach should take only half of this dose. Precaution should be taken for administration to pregnant women in the early stage of pregnancy. Discretionary dose for children.

The news item also emphasized that this formulation is based upon the specific cimactic and geographical characteristics of north China as well as the the specific nature of the diet of northern Chinese which is quite rich and thus have body features of inner heat.

The formula has the general therapuetic action of clearing heat , detoxifies ( jie du) and tonifies the Qiqing re jie du bu qi.

Rey:

Thanks for translating it! Since it is a Earth excessive year, the

formula may be more generally appplicable.

It would be interesting to see the pulses of someone with SARS and

see what is the pattern in the Lung position as well as the other

organs and depths---what combination of dampness, heat, exchanges

between the organs, etc.---that makes this repiratory illness more

difficult to treat.
