All,

There is a Council of Oriental Medical Publishers (COMP) meeting

announced for the CHA conference this June. However, we are moving our

home and office cross country on the first of June and I will probably be

dragging-in to the conference more in the mind state of an over-age, out-of-

shape furniture mover than a meeting host. I have no agenda prepared; I

have no realistic possibility of having anything prepared. However, I would

be happy to put together a meeting if there is anyone who has something

they would like to say. I will likewise be pleased to meet with any group

who wants to ask questions, or just get together with people who would like

to talk about publication issues in general.

Reply to the list or email me directly if you wish.

I would like to see just informal get-togethers among various folks

loosely associated with the COMP project. Just to keep the juices

flowing.

I am not sure I follow you, but a formal meeting is already scheduled; there is

just no agenda set as of yet.

I agree with Z'ev. Just a chance to get together and talk without a

major agenda.

If I understand, the idea is to use the time set aside in a more informal

way?

that's fine with me. it was planned as a lunchtime meeting, which are not the

best forums for formal discussion anyway.

Z'ev, Bob(s), Marnae, and others interested in COMP,

At the risk of starting a riot, and because I

won't be in attendance in San Diego in June,

can I ask all of you what is on your minds

with respect to COMP?

Far be it from me to suggest any sort of

agenda for what seems to be shaping up as

an ideal, California meeting of what may

be the most formless organization in this

sector of the universe, but what sort of

juices does anyone imagine are likely to

flow at a COMP meeting?

That last is not a rhetorical question.

I'm sincerely interested in knowing what's

on people's minds regarding COMP.

I was asked by Bob Felt if I wanted to host a COMP meeting at the CHA

conference. I am not a COMP publisher, but I do support the group's position

on labeling of TRANSLATED texts (functional, denotative, etc.) and the use of

standardized translation terminology with flexible rules for application (such

as using a nonstandard term as long as the term is glossed as such and

pegged to the standard for reference purposes). I have nothing else on my

mind besides hosting. There will be quite a few COMP publishers and/or

authors in attendance, so it does seem like a good time to meet.
